Similar to endoscopy but done with a much longer scope; this is the gold standard diagnostic method for stomach ulcers in horses. We can carry out gastroscopes on your yard or at our clinic, as long as there is a power outlet.

In order for our vets to be able to see the lining of the stomach clearly, your horse must be starved for a minimum 12 hours prior to gastroscopy and water should be taken away 2 hours prior to vets arrival. The reason for this is so that the stomach is empty and the mucosa is clearly visible on the gastroscope - failure to starve your horse adequately may result in the inability to achieve a diagnosis and hence a repeat visit.
